Week of March 24, 2019

Dear Cunningham Family:

I hope you have experienced a week that has been filled with an awareness of God’s presence! I believe that God has been present with you throughout the week, whether or not you have been able to take the time to notice.

In our Lenten Journey this year, we have been focusing on an inward journey, a journey on which we become increasingly aware of God’s presence. This week, we will explore the ways in which God’s presence heals us.

When we speak about healing, some of us expect God to perform some sort of magic trick. I like to think of God’s healing in a different way. God’s healing is transforming, changing us in areas of our lives that no medicine and no magic trick can touch.

Do you have areas of life in need of transformation? Join us in our Journey with Jesus. See you in church!

Grace and peace,
Pastor Tom

CUMC Lenten Study: During the Season of Lent, our Monday Night Bible Study is taking an Inward Pilgrimage while on our journey to the cross. Pastor Tom will help us on this journey drawing from historic spiritual disciplines, adapted for use in our time. Everyone is welcome! Please join us for supper at 6:15 and for our Study at 7:00 pm. For more information, please contact Carol Frost (phone: 571-213-4286; email: cifrost@aol.com).

Our Lenten Journey in Community: We are joining with other Christians in our community in our journey to the cross during the season of Lent. In our community gatherings, we will be examining ways that Jesus invites us to put our faith into action.

Offerings During Our Lenten Gatherings:Our offerings during our joint services and Wednesday night suppers will be donated to the fund, started by a number of Fluvanna County High School students, to assist Bill and Jane Ford, whose home and personal belongings were recently destroyed in a fire.

Next Sunday: Fifth Sunday: On Fifth Sundays, our children and youth remain in the worship service. Pastor Tom would like to include all children and youth who wish to participate in our worship. Please let him know if you plan to be present!

Decor Donations: We received a wonderful donation this week—Window blinds for the Gathering Place’s hall and classroom windows. The blinds are on order and should arrive for installation soon. As the summer sun pours into the Gathering Place, these blinds will be a welcomed and attractive addition. You have done a great job fulfilling the Gathering Place’s décor needs. Thank You!

Recap of General Conference 2019: The Rev. Dr. Peter Moon, District Superintendent from the Richmond District, attended the recent General Conference as a delegate. Pete will come to our district on Sunday, March 31, from 2-3:30 pm, at Standardsville UMC, 25 Court Street, Standardsville, to share about what happened at General Conference 2019 and to answer questions.

Spending Time with the Bible: Center yourself for a moment, asking God to speak to you through the scriptures. Then read slowly. To give you a roadmap, we offer reading suggestions based upon the Daily Officecontained in the Book of Common Prayer. You can also find these readings online at www.BibleGateway.com/reading-plans/bcp-daily-office/today. Don’t rush—it is more important that you take time to hear the voice of God than it is to finish all of the readings on any particular day. As you read, take note of words or phrases that draw your attention, and meditate on the meaning that those words or phrases hold for you. Here are the readings for this week:
